What is ICaps®?
It is a dietary supplement formulated with lutein and zeaxanthin plus essential vitamins and minerals for the maintenance of healthy eyes and general eye health.
It is now available in a one-a-day tablet with 10 mg lutein, which replaces the two-a-day product.
What is lutein and how can it help eye health?
Lutein is part of a family of substances called carotenoids. These are a critical part of the eye's macular pigment. The macula can be depleted through years of exposure to light and oxidative stress, but the lutein in ICaps® can help compensate for this. You could call lutein 'nature's own sunglasses' because it acts as a kind of optical filter, protecting the eyes against radiation damage.
Lutein also protects the optic nerves from the damaging effects of ageing.
In recent years many clinical trials have found that lutein and zeaxanthin are essential micronutrients for eye health.
What vitamins/minerals does ICaps® contain?
ICaps® contains the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin to help protect the eyes against the effects of years of exposure to damaging light.
It also contains Vitamin A, to help vision in dim light, and the antioxidant Vitamin E to help protect cell membranes.
ICaps® contains Vitamin C to protect cells and keep them healthy. The Vitamin B2 in ICaps® is proven to help maintain good eyesight, and a key sign of deficiency in this vitamin is itchy, irritated eyes. ICaps® also contains the trace elements zinc, selenium, copper and manganese.
What quantities of lutein and zeaxanthin does ICaps® contain?
ICaps® contains 10 mg lutein and an average of 810 µg of zeaxanthin per tablet.
Does ICaps® contain the recommended amount of vitamins?
Many supplements contain 100% RDA (Recommended Daily Amount) of vitamins and minerals. While this may be sufficient to avoid overall deficiency, studies have suggested that these levels may be too low to have much of a positive effect on eye health. Some of the nutrients in ICaps® are therefore deliberately set above the RDA to provide maximum benefit.
